George Royle concentrates his practice in general real estate matters, elder law, wills and estate administration, and real estate tax assessment appeal

Prior to opening Royle & Durney in Tannersville, Mr. Royle served as Director of Special Projects with the Shawnee Group, guiding the acquisition and operation of resorts in Florida, South Carolina and Colorado. His work at Shawnee involved real estate and loan closings on multi­million-dollar transactions.

In his early career, Mr. Royle was primarily a trial attorney. He was also a founding partner of Royle and Westervelt, a successful Monroe County law firm. He began as a law clerk for Federal District Judge Joseph Lord in Philadelphia, followed by a year with the Philadelphia law firm of Morgan Lewis and Bockius.

A member of the Monroe County and Pennsylvania Bar Associations, Mr. Royle is currently chair of the Real Estate Section of the Monroe County Bar Association. He was also the principal draftsman of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court’s original rules on lawyer advertising.

Mr. Royle graduated from Colgate University and received his Juris Doctor degree from Temple University Law School.

Mr. Royle is admitted to practice before the courts of Pennsylvania.

He and his wife live in Henryville. They have four children.

Jeffrey A. Durney concentrates his practice in real estate law, corporate matters, municipal law, wills and estate administration and civil litigation.  He currently serves as Solicitor for the Monroe County Assessment Office and the Board of Assessment Revision.  Mr. Durney is also the Solicitor for the Monroe County Conservation District and the Zoning Hearing Boards of Jackson, Smithfield and Tunkhannock Townships. Mr. Durney previously served as Solicitor for Pocono Township.

Mr. Durney is currently serving as President of the Monroe County Bar Association.

Mr. Durney is the former General Counsel of The Shawnee Group Companies, where he was responsible for all legal affairs of a resort and real estate development company and its affiliates with 1,100 employees and projects in Pennsylvania, Florida and South Carolina.  Prior to his in-house corporate work, Mr. Durney concentrated his practice in commercial litigation and real estate for the Allentown firm of Tallman Hudders & Sorrentino, now Norris McLaughlin & Marcus.  He began his career as a commercial litigator with Riker, Danzig, Scherer, Hyland & Perretti in New Jersey.

Mr. Durney received his law degree from Emory University School of Law where he achieved Order of the Coif distinction and was Articles Editor for the Emory Law Journal. Mr. Durney is also a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Colgate University where he was captain of the baseball team.

Mr. Durney is admitted to practice before the state and federal courts of Pennsylvania and New Jersey, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit.

A graduate of East Stroudsburg High School, Mr. Durney has retained strong ties to the community.  He lives in Stroudsburg with his wife and two children.

Geoffrey S. Worthington concentrates his practice in the areas of civil litigation, real estate law, contract law and business law. His diverse experience includes zoning, subdivision and land development, construction defect and payment matters, tax appeals, liquor license transfers, landlord/tenant disputes, contract, and corporate law.

Prior to joining Royle & Durney, Mr. Worthington spent several years as general counsel to a local real estate development company. In this role he was instrumental in the success of several significant land development projects. Before entering the legal profession, Mr. Worthington served several years as a U.S. Border Patrol agent in southern Arizona.

In January 2014 Mr. Worthington received his MBA from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. He received his Juris Doctor degree from Penn State’s Dickinson School of Law in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. Mr. Worthington is a graduate of the University of North Carolina-Wilmington, where he was a member of the crew team.

Mr. Worthington is admitted to practice before the Pennsylvania Supreme Court and the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania.

He resides with his wife and daughter in Plainfield Township.

Hillary Madden joined Royle & Durney in February of 2013. She is a general practitioner, but concentrates her practice in criminal defense work, civil litigation and wills and estates. Her legal experience prior to joining Royle & Durney includes clerking for now-retired President Judge Ronald E. Vican and for Judge David Williamson on the Monroe County Court of Common Pleas. She also worked as an assistant district attorney for the Monroe County District Attorney’s office.

Ms. Madden is a member of the Monroe County Bar, where she is on the pro bono committee and is the Wills for Heroes Coordinator. She is a past President of the Young Lawyers division.

During law school, Ms. Madden worked in the Lehigh County District Attorney’s office and the McShane Firm in Harrisburg, PA. She also served as a student law clerk for Judge J. Michael Eakin on the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania.

Ms. Madden graduated cum laude from Widener University School of Law, where she competed in Moot Court and Trial Advocacy and was a member of the Honor Society for both organizations.

Ms. Madden, formerly Prutzman, lives with her husband in Stroudsburg, PA. She is the Assistant Girls’ Basketball Coach at Liberty High School in Bethlehem, PA.
